Over 470 businesses are located in Downtown Whitby, known as the heart of the Town. Downtown Whitby encompasses Cochrane Street to Garden Street, and Burns Street to the CPR Railway.

Stroll throughout the Downtown core including the verandas of Pearson Lanes (Brock and Mary Streets) which is a historical development that houses individual boutiques, retail merchants and services. Throughout Downtown Whitby, distinctive restaurants' culinary cuisines will tempt your tastebuds with signature dishes and atmosphere.

Downtown Whitby is home to many cultural and educational institutions and community events. The central Whitby Public Library  is a state of the art building located downtown, offering an extensive array of collections, programs, and the Whitby archives. The Whitby History Museum honours and preserves the past and a foundation for the future.  

The Downtown Whitby Development Steering Committee (DWDSC) is responsible for monitoring the implementation of the Downtown Whitby Strategic Action Plan.

Get to know your Durham Region farmers and buy local at the Whitby Farmer's Market. Fresh produce, vegetables, preserves, baked goods and more are available every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. from May to October. Market vendors are also part of Whitby's Heritage Day (the third Saturday in September).

The Whitby Centennial Building is home to the Whitby Courthouse Theatre and active Youth Group. The 160-seat theatre and historical architecture is admired by many visitors each year.
