Garbage and Recycling



The Town of Whitby provides curbside residential waste collection services to Whitby residents. This includes garbage, green bin organics, yard waste, and a special collection program for metals, tires, and other bulky items.

The Region of Durham provides blue box recycling collection service.

Award-Winning Program

Whitby has consistently achieved the highest waste diversion rates in the Region of Durham and has been recognized by the Recycling Council of Ontario for its waste diversion program and its achievement. Keep up the great work Whitby!


2019 Community Waste Events

Co-Collection Event (E-Waste, Household Hazardous Waste and Reuse) - Saturday June 15, 2019

  • Whitby Operations Centre, 333 McKinney Drive - 8 am-noon (rain or shine)

Items being accepted at this event include :

  • Household hazardous waste: old paint, solvents, cleaners, chemical fertilizers and expired fuel and old cosmetics

    • REMEMBER to Transport HHW Safely. For tips on safe handling of your HHW visit 
  • Electronic waste: old TVs, computers, stereo equipment, DVD players etc

  • Re-usable Goods: usable hard furniture, extra renovation materials and used clothing. For a full list of accepted items, visit

  • Non-perishable food items will also be accepted at this event for the local food drive.
