Don has been married to Liz for over 40 years, and they are the proud parents of Julia and Chris, and grandparents of Oliver and Lucy.

Don has served on Whitby Council for twenty five years, twelve as a local councillor, eight as a Regional Councillor and is in his fifth year as Mayor. His focus has always been on building complete communities with strong downtowns and maintaining the quality of life that Whitby residents value.

Locally, Don has served as Chair of the Planning, Operations and Budget committees. He has represented Council on numerous boards and committees including the Library Board, Accessibility Advisory Committee and the Active Transportation and Safe Roads Advisory Committee.

At the Region, Don is Chair of Works Committee and was Chair of Finance & Administration from 2010 to 2014 and Durham Region Roundtable on Climate Change from 2006 to 2014.  He sits on the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) and served as Chair from 2014-2018. He is also on the Board of Directors for Elexicon Corporation.
