About Councillor Roy

Regional Councillor Elizabeth Roy has served on Council for thirteen years. Elizabeth was first elected as West Ward Councillor from 2006 to 2014. During this time, she was Chair of Planning, Chair of Operations and Chair of Budget.  Liz’s involvement has included serving on LACAC Heritage Whitby, Whitby Sustainability Advisory Committee, Downtown Whitby Development Steering Committee, Station Gallery Board of Directors, County Town Carnival Committee and the Ethno Cultural and Diversity Advisory Committee.

Elected as Regional Councillor in 2014, Elizabeth was re-elected in 2018.  At the Region, she sits on the Health & Social Services Committee, Local Housing Corporation and previously she sat on the Finance & Administration Committee, Durham Affordable Seniors Housing Task Force, the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) and Durham Trails Coordinating Committee.  Locally, Liz is the Chair of the Planning & Development portion of Committee of the Whole and of Public Planning Meetings.  Liz also sits on the Whitby Public Library Board and the Station Gallery Board. 

Prior to sitting on Town Council, Elizabeth Roy served as a Durham District School Board Trustee from 1997 to 2006, and as Chair from 1999 to 2004.

Professionally trained as a Medical Radiation Therapist, she has worked in this capacity for 30 years; currently practicing at the Durham Regional Cancer Center.

Elizabeth is the mother of three grown children.  An active community volunteer, Liz is currently working with the Durham Humane Society, WindReach Farm, Block Parents, Whitby's Community Art Projects and is a Rotarian.

Her past community involvements include the Boys and Girls Club, Lakeridge Health Whitby Foundation and Kinark.
