As part of its commitment to local sustainability, the Town of Whitby is working to finalize a new Whitby Green Standard – a resource to help encourage and enhance sustainable new developments in the community.
Once launched, the standard will apply to both new residential and commercial builds. The tiered program identifies mandatory standards and will also identify voluntary ways developers can incorporate sustainability into design and construction projects.

Since the start of COVID-19, hundreds of rocks hand-painted by residents have been popping up along local trails, pathways and sidewalks. The rocks display messages of hope, as well as gratitude for frontline and essential workers.

Yesterday, Thursday, May 14, the Ontario government announced the ability for municipalities across Ontario to reopen marinas and public boat launches.
With this announcement, the Town of Whitby’s Port Whitby Marina and public boat launch (located on Gordon Street) will reopen to boaters this Saturday, May 16 at
6 a.m..

Yesterday, May 14, the Ontario government announced that the first stage of its plan to reopen the province will begin on Tuesday, May 19, 2020.
The health and well-being of residents and staff remain the Town of Whitby’s top priority. At this time, heading into the Victoria Day long weekend, just a reminder that all municipal park amenities and facilities remain closed to the public by order of the Province. Municipal playgrounds also remain closed.

The Town of Whitby is committed to supporting local organizations in their response to the COVID-19 public health crisis. Since March, the Town has awarded more than $50,000 in funding to groups delivering vital services and programming to the community’s most vulnerable.
