In light of recent developments related to COVID-19, the Town of Whitby is taking additional measures to support its residents and local businesses.

“The situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve and change by the hour,” said Whitby Mayor Don Mitchell. “In this time of uncertainty, we want our residents and local businesses to know that we care and are here for them. That is why we are implementing some changes to our services to make things easier for our community.”

The services changes being implemented effective immediately and until further notice include:

• Increasing the four-bag limit to six bags for garbage collection, and waiving the requirement for garbage bag tags
• Eliminating payment for parking at all metered on-street locations and municipal parking lots. Note: for safety reasons, the time limits for parking still apply. Those who have already paid for leased parking in a municipal lot will receive a credit.

In addition, the Town is committed to supporting its most vulnerable residents. That’s why, as of today, all residents are invited to drop off non-perishable food items to the following Whitby Fire Halls:

• Fire Hall 1: 6745 Baldwin Street, Brooklin
• Fire Hall 3: 1501 Brock Street South, Whitby
• Fire Hall 4: 734 Dundas Street West, Whitby
• Fire Hall 5: (Headquarters) 111 McKinney Drive, Whitby

All items received will be donated to local food banks to help those in need.
