Victoria Day weekend is nearly here! As you get ready to celebrate, here is what you need to know:  

Exploring the Outdoors

The days are getting warmer, and spring is in the air. There is no better time to explore Whitby’s parks and trails. Visit our interactive map to find one near you.

While visiting our parks, please do your part to help keep our outdoor spaces as beautiful as they were when you found them by putting waste in its place or taking home what you bring. And remember, if you’re looking to use a BBQ in one of Whitby’s picnic shelters, a permit is required. Learn how to apply for a permit.

Fireworks Use: Only Permitted Monday, May 22

Fireworks are only permitted on Monday, May 22 from dusk to 11 p.m. and only on private property. Should you choose to use them, please be safe, responsible, and considerate of your neighbours. Accessing Library Content

Long weekends are a great time to relax and catch up on your reading. All Whitby Public Library locations will be open on Saturday, May 20. They will be closed on Sunday, May 21, and Monday, May 22. Digital content is available 24/7 at whitbylibrary.ca

Visiting a Town Facility

Planning to get active at a Town facility over the long weekend? Here what’s open and closed:

• All Town recreation facilities will be open on Saturday, May 20 – except for the 55+ Recreation Centre
• All Town recreation facilities will be closed on Monday, May 22.
• The Brooklin Community Centre and Library will be closed on Sunday, May 21
• There will be no registered Swimming lessons at Anne Ottenbrite Pool at Iroquois Park Sports Centre for the long weekend (Friday through Monday)

Town Hall and Garden Street Branch in-person and phone services will also close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, May 19, and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 23.

Waste Collection Reminder

There will be no waste collection services on Monday, May 22. Please put your garbage, green bin and blue boxes out one day after your regular pick-up day.  To confirm your collection pick-up day, check the waste collection calendar or download the Whitby Waste Buddy app.
