Building on the feedback collected from residents in June, the Town of Whitby is seeking input from the community to help inform the development of the Highway 7/12 Alternative Route in north Whitby.
Residents are invited to review the Town’s initial analysis of the study area and provide input on the shortlist of alternatives during the study’s second virtual community open house.
Feedback collected from the community will help the Town inform the next phase of the project, which is to evaluate and select an alternative route.

As the population grows in Whitby and the Greater Toronto Area, usage of Highway 7 and 12 is increasing. To support the traffic infrastructure needs of the community and accommodate this future growth, the Town has initiated a Provincial Class Environmental Assessment (EA) Study to determine an alternative route(s) for provincial traffic that does not go through the Downtown Brooklin area.
The study will evaluate alternative options for the route and recommend a preferred plan to address both the local and provincial traffic needs of the study area.
The Study Design Report was finalized after the first Community Open House in June 2020. The report describes the study background, approach, process, alternatives and public consultation program.
Following the second community open house for this study, additional community consultation will take place in 2021 to finalize the design of the Highway 7/12 Alternative Route.
