What Town of Whitby services are most important to you? Which would you prioritize if you were building Whitby’s Budget? The Town is asking residents these questions as it launches new and interactive digital tools to engage the community in the creation of its Budget.

This year, the Town will move to a multi-year Budget. This will better position the municipality to implement the action items of the Whitby Community Strategic Plan. This new approach will help the Town plan investments to meet its service delivery requirements as Whitby continues to grow – so community feedback matters more than ever.

Get Involved

This year, residents can help inform the Town’s Budget through two new tools and phases of engagement:

• Phase One – Simulate (May 23 to June 13) – residents can use a new and interactive simulator that shows the financial impacts of participants choices in real time as they increase, decrease, or keep funding the same for key municipal service areas.
• Phase Two – Prioritize (June 14 to July 5) – residents can take part in participatory budgeting through a new and interactive tool that invites participants to rank/prioritize possible capital projects for inclusion in the budget.

Quick Facts

• Top budget priorities identified by participants in last year’s budget engagement process included continuing the revitalization of the downtowns, creating more green spaces, and enhancing the quality of the Town’s indoor and outdoor facilities.
• More than 3,000 people also shared their feedback to help inform the Vision, Objectives, and Strategic Pillars of Whitby’s Community Strategic Plan, which will also help to inform the Town’s budget investments.
• Additional key dates: more information on the Town’s budget process will be outlined in a June report, with the goal to receive final approval of the Budget in December 2024.
