Residents can schedule their own community clean-up through the Town’s anti-litter app.
Whitby, March 7, 2022 – Keeping Whitby clean is a collective effort and as the snow begins to melt, the litter doesn’t.
Last month, Whitby Town Council approved the hiring of a new team of seasonal employees who will be dedicated to litter clean-up along the Town’s waterfront – a popular summer destination for residents and visitors alike. The team will be in place this spring and will be stationed at the waterfront on weekends to empty garbage cans and remove other litter. Visitors to Whitby’s waterfront can help support the crew’s efforts by remembering to put waste in designated garbage bins or, even better, take home whatever they bring when visiting the area this spring and summer.
There are a number of other ways residents help put waste in its place and help keep our community clean:
It’s easy for residents from across the Town to help care for and keep our community clean through the anti-litter app. The app provides a streamlined process for residents, businesses and community groups to easily schedule a one-time community-clean up. The app also helps individuals or groups register to adopt a park, trail or road to keep clean for a longer commitment period of two or more years. Participants receive a free cleanup kit that includes bags and gloves. Once the clean-up is complete, Town staff collect the waste from a predetermined location.
When enjoying the outdoors with your furry friend, remember to always pick up after your pet. Put it in a bin or take it home with you.
On windy days you can do your part to prevent litter by properly securing garbage, stacking blue boxes and keeping light weight items that might blow away until your next collection. Learn how to do this in the Whitby Waste Collection Calendar.
