I’m so pleased to share that 2024 has been a banner year for Whitby, with incredible progress and accomplishments achieved through the collaborative efforts of Town staff, Whitby Council, and the continued engagement and support of our residents.
One of my biggest priorities for this term of Council was the creation of a Community Strategic Plan, a roadmap shaped by the voices of our residents.
The plan includes 62 action items that reflect what matters most to Whitby residents including healthcare, green spaces, community safety, the waterfront, economic growth, and social needs, like homelessness and food security.
Over 95 per cent of the action items are now underway or complete.
Accomplishments in 2024 include securing a planning grant for a new hospital in Whitby, marking the opening of a new food bank in partnership with Feed the Need in Durham, continuing work on the new Whitby Sports Complex and securing millions of dollars in grants to support housing, tourism, recreation and other key priorities.
As you explore the Town’s 2024 year-in-review video and my 2024 year-in-review newsletter, you’ll see how closely our achievements align with the priorities identified in the Community Strategic Plan.
Whitby is thriving, thanks to our collective efforts. Together, we’re building a community that is not just growing -- but growing stronger, more connected, and more vibrant with each passing year.
As we look ahead to 2025, I am committed to continuing this momentum.
