Today a new, temporary, “pop-up” COVID-19 Assessment Centre opened at the Town of Whitby’s Heydenshore Pavilion (located at 589 Water Street). The drop-in, drive-through option enables residents to receive a COVID-19 test swab right from the comfort of their car.
Whitby’s temporary “pop-up” COVID-19 Assessment Centre will provide quicker access to COVID-19 tests in addition to Durham Region’s four other assessment centres. The drive-through centre will be open starting today through to Saturday, September 26, no appointment necessary and first come, first served. Residents are asked to enter off of South Blair Street. Members of Durham Region Police Service (DRPS) will guide drivers.
Thursday, September 24: 1 to 5 p.m.
Friday, September 25: 9 to 5 p.m.
Saturday, September 26: 9 to 4 p.m.
The drive-through “pop-up” COVID-19 Assessment Centre is a partnership between the Town of Whitby, Lakeridge Health, DRPS, Region of Durham Paramedic Services, Durham College’s Paramedic Program, the Ontario Volunteer Emergency Response Team (OVERT) and Carea Community Health Centre. All tests will be sent directly to the lab. Results will be available between three to five days.

“We are pleased to do our part to prevent the spread of COVID-19 by working in partnership with Lakeridge Health and our local public health officials to support this new testing site,” said Mayor Don Mitchell. “This site will increase the number of residents who can get tested, when they need to, something that is vitally important as we work together to keep our community safe.”
