Whitby, May 2, 2022 – Those interested in running for office in the next Whitby municipal election – being held Monday, October 24, 2022 – are now able to file their intent to run with the opening of nominations today.
Voters will elect nine Council Members to Whitby Town Council: a Mayor and four Regional Councillors elected by all voters in the Town, and four local Councillors elected by voters from each of the four wards (as shown on the map). Voters may also cast a vote for school board trustees and Regional Chair. A detailed chart on the offices to be elected can be found here.
The deadline for a candidate to file a nomination is August 19, 2022, at 2 p.m. Information on the requirements to submit a nomination can be found here.
In addition to the opening of nominations, today also marks the first day that an individual, corporation or trade union can register as a third party advertiser. The deadline for third party advertisers to file notice of registration is October 21, 2022 at 4:30 p.m. The campaign period begins once a candidate files their nomination or a third party advertiser files their notice of registration and the notice is certified by the Town Clerk.
Voters who financially support a candidate or candidates running for office on the Town of Whitby’s Council can receive a rebate on their monetary contribution through the Town’s Contribution Rebate Program.
Rebates to eligible individuals will be paid in accordance with By-law #7585-19 and will be calculated as follows:
Contributors may receive rebates for contributions made to more than one candidate; however, the maximum rebate for all contributions is $200. More information about the Contribution Rebate Program can be found here.
