On December 16, the Ontario government announced details of the second phase of COVID-19 relief funding for Ontario municipalities, including the Town of Whitby, for 2021. In follow up to this announcement, Mayor Don Mitchell has issued the following statement:
“The Town of Whitby is pleased to receive an additional $1.16 million funding commitment from our federal and provincial partners, adding to the $2.75 million in funding we received earlier this year. This funding will help to offset the increased cost of essential service delivery experienced as a result of COVID-19. It will also enable us to continue to advance the capital projects, such as new roads and recreation facilities, needed to support our growing community. We look forward to continuing to work with our provincial and federal partners to support our Town through this pandemic.”
This funding is part of the second phase of the $4 billion federal-provincial Safe Restart Agreement announced this summer to provide financial relief to Ontario municipalities.
