Today, the Town of Whitby pays tribute to veterans and active service members on Remembrance Day, supporting its two local Legions – Brooklin Legion Branch 152 and Whitby Legion Branch 112. Mayor Don Mitchell issued the following statement:
“The Town recognizes and thanks all veterans and active members of the Canadian Armed Forces for their service on this solemn and important day for our nation. While there will be no public Remembrance Day gatherings in Whitby this year due to the pandemic, it remains our duty as Canadians to honour our veterans. I encourage you to wear a poppy this year and to observe two minutes of silence at 11 a.m. to recognize the sacrifice of our veterans. You can also view the Royal Canadian Legion’s Facebook Live presentation of the National Remembrance Day ceremony or the broadcast on CBC.”
