Whitby issues call for local artists, artisans and makers to be part of virtual creative showcase launching July 1
Whitby residents will soon have a new way to #SupportLocal through a virtual showcase that will take people behind-the-scenes to learn more about the local artists, artisans and makers who contribute to the Town’s creative community.
The new virtual ‘Artists, Artisans and Makers Showcase’ – a key action item of Whitby’s new Culture Plan – will launch on July 1 as part of the Town’s Canada Day celebrations. The goal: to introduce residents to the work and unique stories of some of the Town’s most creative talent. It will connect residents to each artist’s website or product page to continue to #ShopLocal during this time of COVID-19 restrictions.
That’s why today, the Town is calling for Whitby’s creative residents to apply to be featured in this virtual showcase. Applications can be submitted between now and Monday, May 31. Submission categories include painting, sculptures, jewellery, photography, glass-blowing and more.
“Whitby is full of creative and talented residents. The virtual Artists, Artisans and Makers Showcase is another way we can support local by learning about and supporting the many artists and entrepreneurs that call our Town home.”
- Don Mitchell, Mayor
“Starting July 1, this new virtual showcase will provide residents with an exciting new way to support and learn more about our Town’s creative community. Through the showcase, visitors will be able to read stories about local art vendors, browse a gallery of their work and visit their websites or social media pages to purchase goods.”
- Sarah Klein, Director of Strategic Initiatives
