Yesterday, Thursday, May 14, the Ontario government announced the ability for municipalities across Ontario to reopen marinas and public boat launches.
With this announcement, the Town of Whitby’s Port Whitby Marina and public boat launch (located on Gordon Street) will reopen to boaters this Saturday, May 16 at
6 a.m..
Physical distancing will be required to be practiced at all times by visitors to the facilities. The reopening will take place as follows:
Gordon Street Public Boat Ramp
The public boat ramp will reopen to boaters on Saturday, May 16, at 6 a.m. The facility remains closed to the general public at this time.
For the safety of all visitors, physical distancing will be strictly enforced and required at all times while on the grounds, ramp and floating docks. If the ramp launch area is in use, boaters are asked to please wait until the area is cleared before proceeding.
A reminder that the Gordon Street public boat ramp is a pay and display lot. Single use fees are $10 for vehicle and trailer or $5 for vehicle only.
Port Whitby Marina
The marina yard and floating piers will reopen to boaters this Saturday, May 16, at
6 a.m. Boaters will be permitted access through the main marina gate using their boater card/fob. Marina staff will begin launching boats as of Tuesday, May 18.
As the need for physical distancing continues, the marina clubhouse (including washroom facilities) and picnic shelters will remain closed until it is safe to reopen.
For the safety of all visitors, physical distancing will be strictly enforced and required at all times while in the yard and on the piers. Marina staff will also be monitoring the capacity of the marina and will limit/restrict access, as required, to maintain proper physical distancing.
A guide for best practices on how to maintain physical distancing while visiting marinas has been released by Boating Ontario and can be viewed here.
Public Pier at Promenade Lake Park
At this time, the public pier located at Promenade Lake Park remains closed due to hazards related to high water levels. The Town will provide an update regarding the re-opening of this facility once conditions allow safe use.
The Town thanks residents and visitors for their patience as the situation with COVID-19 continues to evolve.
