Did-you-know: for every new vehicle the Town of Whitby purchases, new trees are planted within Whitby? The first 25 trees of the Town’s ‘Fleet to Trees’ program were planted in Bradley Park last week. Watch this video to learn more: https://youtu.be/DHHQ9XnFxdg

The purpose of the ‘Fleet to Trees’ program is to help offset greenhouse gas emissions created by Town vehicles, such as fire, waste collection and winter maintenance trucks that service the community. For every new vehicle purchase the Town requires the successful supplier/manufacturer to supply a set amount of trees to be planted. The number of trees is dependent on the total cost of the project.

• Vehicles that resulted in this first planting of trees were manufactured by Techno Feu Inc., E-One Trucks, Dependable Emergency Vehicles and Shu-Pak Equipment.
• ‘Fleet to Trees’ is part of the Town’s goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent by the year 2050.

• The Town operates a diverse fleet of vehicles and equipment to deliver essential services to the community, including fire and emergency services, road and parks maintenance and snow removal.

• The Town maintains approximately 50,000 trees and manages trees and other vegetation in Whitby forests and greenspaces.
