According to the Flood Watch update issued by the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority (CLOCA) today, Tuesday, April 28, a strong low-pressure system is forecast to move through Whitby early Wednesday (April 29) through Thursday (April 30), bringing heavy rain, wind, and risks of thunderstorms. The heavy rain has the potential to result in increased flows and higher than normal water levels in local creeks and streams.
Residents are reminded to stay a safe distance from local waterways and structures such as bridges, culverts and dams when water levels are high. Elevated water levels, fast flows and slippery conditions along stream banks can make these locations dangerous. Children should also be warned of dangerous conditions and should stay away from local waterways and ponds.
Residents are also reminded to keep catch basins near their property clear of debris to improve drainage and reduce the risk of flooding.
The Town will continue to provide information and share updates from CLOCA via social media (@TownofWhitby) as they are posted.
