What You Need to Know This Canada Day

Canada Day will look a little different this year due to COVID-19 – here’s what you need to know leading up to July 1:

Parks, Trails, and Outdoor Recreation Facilities

While enjoying parks, trails and other outdoor recreation facilities, stay safe by always maintaining a distance of two metres or six feet between yourself and any person outside your household or social circle.

A reminder that the provincially-mandated closure of municipal playgrounds and playground equipment remains in effect at this time.

Holiday Service Changes

Town Hall phone services will close at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 30, and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 2.

Whitby Public Library

The Central Library and Brooklin Branch will be closed on Wednesday, July 1. Visit whitbylibrary.ca for access to digital content and program information.

Waste Collection

There is no waste collection service on Wednesday, July 1. Starting Wednesday, July 1, garbage and green bin collection has been moved forward one day after your regular pick up day. To confirm your collection pick up day, check the waste collection calendar or download the Whitby Waste Buddy app.

Celebrating Canada Day At Home

Residents and local businesses can celebrate the lead up to July 1 with a variety of Canada Day events hosted by the Town – including a decorating contest, summer recipes from local restaurants and other family-friendly activities. Visit whitby.ca/canadaday for details.

On July 1, residents across Durham Region will come together for the virtual celebration - “Canada Day, the Durham Way” taking place on July 1, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. live on Facebook.
