The Labour Day Holiday will look a little different this year due to COVID-19 – here is what you need to know leading up the final long weekend of the summer:
Parks, Trails, and Outdoor Recreation Facilities
While enjoying parks, trails and other outdoor recreation facilities, stay safe by always maintaining a distance of two metres or six feet between yourself and any person outside your household or social circle.
Splash Pads and Playgrounds
The Town’s playgrounds and splash pads remain open. Remember to play safe by keeping two metres or six feet apart from those outside your household or social circle, and bring and use your own hand sanitizer frequently.

Protect Others, Wear a Face Mask
Non-medical face masks or coverings are mandatory when inside commercial public spaces in Durham Region. Residents are reminded that wearing a non-medical face mask should not be a replacement for handwashing and should be worn when unable to practice safe physical distancing.
Holiday Service Changes
Town Hall and Garden Street Branch phone and in-person services will close at 4:30 p.m. on Friday, September 4, and will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8.
Whitby Public Library
All Whitby Public Library branches, including contactless pickup at the Rossland and Brooklin branches, will be closed on Monday, September 7. Book returns remain open at the Central and Brooklin library branches. Visit whitbylibrary.ca for access to digital content and program information.
Waste Collection
There is no waste collection service on Monday, September 7. Starting Monday, September 7, garbage and green bin collection has been moved forward one day after your regular pick up day. To confirm your collection pick up day, check the waste collection calendar or download the Whitby Waste Buddy app. As of September 8, the 4-bag limit on the number of garbage bags residents can place on the curb every other week will once again be in effect. Additional bags must have garbage bag tags attached. Visit whitby.ca/waste for details.
