Whitby Animal Services Officers care for a variety of animals, including kittens.
“The best thing about my job is coming to work every day experiencing new things and dealing with all kinds of animals that need our help. We all come together with the resources needed to ensure every animal we come by has the best chance at life, and that is what fills the heart. Seeing everyone in the animal community pull together when an animal is in need – whether it be our Agency, Wildlife Rehabilitation Centres, Rescues, or our Pet Store partnerships – truly makes this career what it is.”
Josh Bartlett, Whitby Animal Services Officer
Whitby Animal Services provides animal care, education, enforcement, and licensing to the community. One of the most rewarding things they do is reunite grateful owners with their missing furry family members.
One example of this is a heartwarming story Whitby Animal Services shared about reuniting a Whitby resident with her missing cat after six years. Back in 2016, a Whitby resident’s cat went missing. She never gave up hope that by some miracle he would be found, but eventually decided to adopt another cat. Imagine her surprise when Whitby Animal Services phoned her six years later in 2021 to let her know they had found her cat! The cat who came in as a stray was able to be identified because he was microchipped as a kitten.
Microchips help lost pets return home. To get your pet microchipped, book an appointment at Whitby Animal Services Centre located at 4680 Thickson Road North or attend a microchip clinic in the community. If you aren’t sure if your pet is microchipped, visit Whitby Animal Services Centre to have staff scan your pet for free. Staff are requesting donations of towels or blankets to care for shelter animals this holiday season.
