Sustainability improvements are on the way for the West Lynde neighbourhood and its over 7,000 residents, as the area has been selected for the Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program (SNAP).
This initiative, led by the Town of Whitby, the Region of Durham, and the Central Lake Ontario Conservation Authority, will introduce a series of sustainability-related improvements in the neighbourhood over the next few years. The goal: to create an action-oriented plan to make the neighbourhood more sustainable and climate resilient – and we want to hear from you.
Whitby is committed to building a sustainable future, and I am incredibly pleased to see the Sustainable Neighbourhood Action Program being implemented in one of our neighbourhoods. This initiative reflects the Town's proactive approach to addressing environmental challenges while enhancing the quality of life for residents. I believe this program will serve as a model for other neighbourhoods, demonstrating how local actions can contribute to a more resilient and sustainable future for all of Whitby.
- Elizabeth Roy, Mayor, Town of Whitby
Now through October 29, take an online survey to share which sustainability actions you think should be prioritized as the SNAP is developed.
For example, do you think more green spaces, rain or community gardens, wetland restoration, educational resources, energy-efficient home upgrades, or something else should be the priority?
Subscribe to the Connect Whitby page to receive notifications about open houses, events, workshops, surveys, and interviews.
Feedback gathered will be used to develop a final SNAP Plan to be brought forward for Council approval by Spring 2026.
